The University of California’s Office of the President (UCOP) conducted a review of PPSM-36: Classification of Positions policy. The revised policy went into effect on April 1, 2024.


The policy revisions are substantive and include, but are not limited to:

  • added definitions for clarity and understanding,
  • added substantial content to align policy with systemwide and location practices:
    • position description
    • classification authority
    • position evaluation
  • clarified systemwide and location responsibilities
    • implementation of the policy
    • compliance with the policy
