University of California, Riverside –
American Heart Association Gold Recognition

UC Riverside is proud to have met the American Heart Association (AHA) criteria for Gold recognition in the AHA’s Workplace Health Achievement Index. The American Heart Association has defined best practices for employers to use to build a culture of health for their employees in the workplace. The American Heart Association’s Workplace Health Achievement Index measures the extent to which the company has implemented those workplace health best practices. Companies recognized at the Gold level have achieved an Index Score of 175 – 217 out of a maximum 217 points.

This is the fifth time UCR has been recognized by the American Heart Association. The recognition demonstrates UCR’s efforts and leadership in making wellness a priority through its role as a catalyst for change, improving health, and serving as an integral partner to institutionalize health and well-being within the UCR community.

The UCR Wellness Program focuses on promoting awareness and education, motivation for positive behavior changes, and influencing campus practices and policy to support a healthy environment.  The program was created to encourage all faculty and staff to live healthier lifestyles and create a culture of health throughout the campus.

UCR Healthy Campus strives to make the healthy choice the easy choice. This requires changing the surrounding environment and culture to support and sustain positive behavior change. UCR’s Healthy Campus has formed partnerships with students, faculty, and staff, and the surrounding community to develop, implement, and institutionalize policies and environments essential for sustainable behavior change.
