Breadcrumb

The recent California wildfires have impacted many in our campus community. We would like to offer our condolences to all those affected and those who have been evacuated from their homes due to the Line Fire burning in San Bernardino County.

In response to this year’s fire season, provisions are in place to address situations when employees are directly affected by the fires and are unable to complete their regular work schedule. Supervisors and managers are encouraged to provide maximum flexibility when considering employee requests including identifying short-term options such as an alternate work schedule or applicable leaves to provide care for family members directly impacted.

Consistent with UCOP policy we want to share with you applicable provisions within the Absence from Work policy, should an employee be impacted by the fires or temporary power outage.

  • PSS and MSP employees: PPSM 2.210, section F.1 or local procedure 2.210 may be utilized on behalf of eligible employees who are impacted by the fire and mass power outage.
  • SMG employees seeking leave should refer to PPSM II - 46 (Administrative Leaves with Pay).
  • Collective bargaining agreement (CBA): employees covered by these agreements should review the leave provisions within their respective CBA.

Consistent with PPSM policy, an employee should inform his or her supervisor as far in advance as possible of the need to take time. As the need to take leave under these unforeseeable circumstances, an employee should inform his or her supervisor as soon as practicable of the need for leave. Employees must comply with all local procedures concerning notice requirements and any supporting documentation.
