Now Accepting Applications for the 2026 BCSC Program Through July 31, 2026.

Building Core Supervisory Competencies (BCSC) is a nine-month cohort-based program designed to support the growth and success of early-career (2-5 years) supervisors at UC Riverside. Through interactive learning and practical tools, the program is designed to strengthen core supervisory capabilities, helping participants develop a broad range of skills and techniques that can be immediately applied. Participants will leave with practical strategies to motivate and guide their teams, resolve issues constructively, and foster a more productive and engaged work environment.

Program Curriculum

At its core, BCSC focuses on building the self-awareness and personal insight needed to lead with confidence and integrity. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of their own behaviors, motivations, and impact on others, helping them to develop greater emotional control, resilience, and presence in the workplace.

Core course topics include how to adapt supervisory approaches to meet the needs of different individuals and situations, how to communicate with clarity and purpose, and how to navigate the complexities of decision-making and accountability with professionalism.

To improve overall team effectiveness, the program also emphasizes how to build trust, manage performance, address challenges proactively, and create a culture of collaboration and growth.

NEW for the 2026 program: Participants will also complete a 360-feedback assessment to identify areas of strength and opportunities for development on three key factors: drive for success, relationship intelligence, and task/project agility.

"My experience in the 2025 BCSC program was great. I'm glad I was able to participate. I learned a lot as I am in the beginning stages of my supervisory journey. I will definitely use the tools and skills learned. It was great building connections to staff across the campus. Hearing their stories really helped to reinforce the material that we learned throughout the program.”

“It was truly my pleasure to participate in the program. I’m a firm believer that when people show you who they are, you should believe them. Throughout the entire cohort, [program facilitators] consistently demonstrated the qualities of exceptional leaders: professionalism, authenticity, integrity, patience, and a genuine commitment to developing others. They didn't simply teach the material; they modeled the very leadership principles they were instructing us to embrace.”
