Health and Welfare Plans
As a University of California employee, you help shape the quality of life for people throughout California and around the world.
Every faculty and staff member plays an important role in UC’s mission of education, research and public service; UC’s high-quality, comprehensive benefits are among the rewards you receive in return. These benefits are an important part of your total compensation.
Health and Welfare Plans
The Compensation, and Health and Welfare Benefits Program provides both choice and value to meet the needs of our diverse workforce. For questions regarding health and welfare benefits, please contact the UCPath Center at (855) 982-7284.
In addition to competitive compensation and benefits for all UC employees, we would like to share the following health and welfare resources:
Behavioral Health Plans
Kaiser HMO
Behavioral health and substance abuse coverage are provided by Kaiser and Optum. Kaiser members may access care from Kaiser behavioral health providers and from Optum in-network providers. If you are seeking care through Optum as a Kaiser HMO member, there is no charge for your first three routine office or telemental health visits; you will be charged a $30 copayment for each of your following visits.
Please note: Kaiser and Optum do not coordinate care or costs of behavioral health services and each plan has specific requirements. Therefore, it is important to select behavioral health services carefully and follow all of the plan guidelines and authorization requirements for the behavioral health services plan you select.

Insurance
Disability Insurance
Having the right disability insurance in place is a critical—and often overlooked—piece of your financial safety net. This coverage provides you essential peace of mind should illness or injury ever prevent you from working for an extended period of time. As a UC employee, you have options for disability coverage. UC does not participate in the State Disability Insurance program. This coverage is your only option for insuring your income in the event of illness or injury.

Other Resources
Flexible Spending Accounts
Health and dependent care related expenses are applied differently for each participant and some of the responsibility for the costs are shared by the members. The University's Health Flexible Spending Accounts allow you to set aside pre-tax funds each year for these types of expenses to manage the costs and save on your income taxes.
