As Californians cope with wildfires across the state, UC’s benefits partners are committed to meeting the needs of those affected. ARAG offers Legal Now, an individual consumer product that may be helpful for employees and retirees, not currently participating in UC’s legal plan, who need immediate assistance with property loss or home and insurance recovery challenges.
The cost for Legal Now is $99 for 90 days of legal support for a single legal matter. Individuals who purchase coverage receive access to ARAG’s book of vetted attorneys and a 25% discount on their normal hourly fees. The plan offers assistance with more than 70 common legal matters and connects participants with local attorneys, in-person when possible or by phone, if they need a specialist and there isn’t one in the network near them.

The following services are excluded from the plan:
- Matters arising out of a business interest, investment interests, employment matters, employee benefits, matters relating to an individual’s role as an officer or director of an organization, and patents or copyrights.
- Homeowner/rental/auto insurance claims against California Casualty and MetLife Choice for individuals who have coverage through UC-sponsored programs with these insurers.
- Matters outside of the jurisdiction of the United States of America.
- Matters deemed by ARAG to be frivolous or lacking merit.
- Matters against ARAG.
