Equity Increase & Equity Reviews

An equity increase is a permanent increase to the base salary that may be granted to an employee under certain circumstances, such as increased duties that do not warrant a reclassification or a significant salary lag to comparable internal positions or the local labor market.   The intent of equity adjustments is to provide consideration to critical and/or unusual pay administration problems.

  • A compelling argument must be made concerning the rationale to increase an employee's base salary.
  • Increases are separate and distinct from the merit programs. Equity adjustments are not to be used to circumvent the campus' merit programs.
  • Equity increases are subject to funding availability.
  • For represented positions, some of the collective bargaining agreements contain provisions regarding individual equity increases in articles titled Compensation or Wages. Changes in individual pay rates for represented positions generally require a notification to the applicable union.
  • Additional information is also contained in Personnel Policy 30 Compensation, and the campus Local Procedure 30.

How To Request an Equity Review

To request an equity review, an online process is available. The iReview system (link to online classification tools page) is a Human Resources enterprise application that replaces the former paper/email submission process.  An equity review request must be routed through the appropriate internal organizational channels, beginning with the department head. The submission requires the rationale, and in some cases a revised job description as well as a copy of the prior job description, and an organizational chart. The request is contingent on the availability of funding, and requires review at both the departmental level and organizational unit level prior to review by Human Resources. Access to the iReview system is based on departmental roles, such as supervisors and department heads.

iReview allows for the online submission of equity and reclassification reviews. Use of iReview to submit reclassification and equity requests is mandatory after May 26, 2010.  Visit iReview’s support site for additional information or call the HR contact for your organization.
