UCR Local Procedure - Nominating Staff for Emeritus/a Status

II. Background
a.a Emeriti/ae are important members of the university. The UCR campus community acknowledges the significant contributions these individuals make. Their knowledge, experience and talents continue to serve as a valuable asset to the mission of the university.
b. Emeritus/a status is an honor granted by the chancellor upon the retirement of a UCR staff member who has provided outstanding service to the university.
c. The individual remains bound to all UC policies including, but not limited to, oath/patent, conflict of interest, ethics and sexual harassment.
III. Eligibility

The following eligibility criteria must be met to be considered for Emeritus/a status:

 

i.   Staff nominees who hold Management and Senior Professional (MSP), Grade III or above, or Senior Management Group (SMG) positions;

ii.   At least ten years of services;

iii.  Service at the time of retirement in a position assigned to MSP Grade III or above, or a position at any grade of the SMG;

iv.  Extraordinary and meritorious contributions to the fulfillment of the mission and programs of the university; and

v.   Recognition from outside the UC of noteworthy contributions to the nominee's professional field.

IV. Procedure

a.

Any faculty/staff member may recommend an eligible employee for Emeritus/a status.The nominator must complete and sign the Nomination for Staff Emeritus/a Status form, and forward it to Human Resources (normally three months prior to the nominee's retirement date. 

b.

The nominator must complete and sign the Nomination for Staff Emeritus/a Status form, and forward it to Human Resources (normally three months prior to the nominee's retirement date.

c.

Human Resources verifies the following information:

i.  Staff title (MSP grade 3 or above, or SMG).

ii.  The years of service (minimum of 10 years)

iii.  The retirement date.

iv.  The nominator has provided a brief history of university employment.

v.   The nominator includes the extraordinary and meritorious contributions the nominee made in fulfillment of the mission and programs of the university.

vi.   The nominator has provided a description of the recognition the staff member has received outside the university for noteworthy contributions to the nominee's professional field.

d.

Human Resources signs and forwards the Nomination for Staff Emeritus/a Status form to the Chancellor for review and approval.

e.

The Chancellor approves or denies the request, signs the form, and returns it to Human Resources.

f.

Human Resources notifies the department of the outcome and provides the following information so that PPS can be updated accurately:

i.    Emeritus/a status

ii.   Effective date

V. Benefits of Staff Emeritus/a Status

a.

Eligible to maintain a UCR email address.

b.

Eligible to purchase a campus parking permit at the established rate.

c.

Eligible to maintain library privileges.

d.

Eligible to use the emeritus title on business cards.
