National Disability Employment Awareness Month

The Department of Labor designates the month of October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month. University of California, Riverside (UCR) Human Resources is planning three National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) events to raise awareness about disability employment issues and to celebrate the contributions of America’s workers with disabilities to staff, faculty, students and the community. October 1, 2016:  Eric Barr presents "A Piece of My Mind"

Eric Barr 

Eric Barr is an Emeritus Professor and former Chair of the UC Riverside Department of Theatre, Film & Digital Production. He is the writer and performer of a one-man show about his battle to recover from a series of strokes.

  • A reception will immediately follow the performance
  • Open to the university and local community
  • Admission and parking is free of charge
  • Performance will take place in the UCR University Theatre

      • Note: For those disabled participants, a station with a courtesy shuttle will be set up in Lot 6 to take you directly to the theatre

October 7, 2016 / 11:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. / Walk and Roll

The Walk and Roll will include UCR leadership, representatives from the City of Riverside, the California Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) and other community partners.

  • Booths with disability resources, career information and other resources will be positioned along the walking path.
  • Meet at the Flagpole – the route will begin at the flagpole and continue throughout the campus - view the Route Map
  • Open to the university and local community
  • Admission and parking is free of charge

    • Vendor Registration: If you are a vendor who would like to showcase your resource, please fill out the Vendor Registration Form.
      • To fill out the form, download/save as PDF to your desktop and fill out the form fields.
  • Healthy snacks will be provided

October 18, 2016 / 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. / DisAbility Awareness Workshop

UCR and the DOR will facilitate this informative diversity workshop called "Windmills", a formal disability sensitivity awareness program. This event is for anyone who wants to interact more effectively with persons with disabilities. The program will include information on:

  • The workshop will take place in the Highlander Union Building (HUB) 302 North
  • Lunch will be served
  • This event and parking is free of charge
  • Parking will be available in Lot 24
    • Map/Directions
    • Note: For those disabled participants, a station with a courtesy shuttle will be set up in Lot 24 to take you directly to the HUB
  • Disability etiquette
  • Inclusive language
  • Interacting with students, co-workers and applicants with disabilities
