The University of California Retirement System
The University of California Retirement System (UCRS) is a comprehensive retirement system consisting of a generous pension plan (UCRP) and a variety of retirement savings plans to achieve a secure retirement.
UC Retirement Plan (UCRP)
- Provides retirement income for eligible employees and their eligible survivors.
- Retirement Plan membership is automatic and mandatory for eligible employees, and begins the first day of an eligible appointment.
- An eligible appointment is at least 50 percent time or more on a fixed or variable basis for one year or longer. Limited appointments may become eligible for membership after working 1,000 hours in a rolling, continuous 12-month period.
UC Savings Plans
The UC Retirement Savings Program offers a convenient, tax-advantaged way to save for retirement through payroll deductions only. The Program consists of:
- Defined Contribution Plan (DCP)
- Pretax Account for mandatory safe harbor employee contributions
- After-tax/Rollover Account for voluntary contributions and taxable portion of rollovers from other employer plans
- Tax-Deferred 403(b) Plan
- 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan
