2017 Open Enrollment

2016 OE banner

“There’s a lot of good news this year,” said Dwaine Duckett, Vice President of Human Resources. “We’ve worked hard to manage costs, and offer the protection of disability insurance to more faculty and staff than ever before. I encourage everyone to take a careful look at their options this year, to make sure they’re taking full advantage of their UC benefits.”

Medical Plans

Choose Well – Live Well

Core – is a high-deductible catastrophic plan

Beginning January 1, 2017, Core (along with UC’s other PPO medical plans) will have new administrators for medical, behavioral health and prescription drug benefits. The administrator of your plan processes claims, creates a network of health care providers or pharmacies and sets clinical policies and guidelines.

Health Net Blue & Gold

Health Net Blue & Gold

Health Net Blue & Gold is an HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) with a custom network of providers created exclusively for UC. The Blue & Gold network includes: Over 240 hospitals, 9,400 PCPs and 25,000 specialists, and all UC Medical Centers and medical groups.

Kaiser Permanente

Kaiser Permanente – California

Kaiser is an HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) with a closed network of providers.

  • You choose a primary care physician (PCP) from Kaiser’s network.
  • The PCP coordinates your care and refers you to specialists.
UC Cares

UC Care

UC Care is a PPO plan created just for UC. Beginning January 1, 2017, UC Care (along with UC’s other PPO medical plans) will have new administrators for medical, behavioral health and prescription drug benefits.

Health Savings Plan

UC Health Savings Plan

The UC Health Savings Plan (HSP) is a high-deductible PPO (preferred provider organization) paired with a health savings account (HSA), a federal tax-free account maintained by HealthEquity, to help pay your out-of-pocket costs.

FSA Account

Flexible Spending Accounts

Open Enrollment is the time for employees to enroll or re-enroll in an FSA if you want to continue the plan in 2017. With a minimum contribution of $180 per year, FSA allows you to pay for eligible expenses on a pretax basis. As a result, your salary is reduced before taxes are assessed, and you pay less in taxes.

Medical Plan Rates

 Medical Plan Rates

You and UC share the costs of your medical plan premium; UC contributes up to 100% of the cost, depending on the plan and the coverage you choose, as well as your Medical Contribution Base (MCB), which is based on your full-time salary rate as of Jan. 1, 2016.

ARAG Legal Plan

The legal plan gives you access to basic, personal legal help. The plan provides online, over-the-phone or in-person access and covers specific legal services. The legal insurance plan helps mainly with routine preventive or defensive matters and should cover most legal needs.

Disability Plan

Disability - Liberty Mutual Disability Insurance

UC is offering new disability options for 2017 — plus, more part-time employees will now be eligible. During Open Enrollment, all eligible employees — those currently covered and those not enrolled — can choose Voluntary Short-Term Disability (benefits up to six months), Long-Term Disability (benefits after six months, up to your Social Security retirement age) or both.
